Father of Pfizer vaccine optimistic about 'ending the pandemic' 7

Uğur Şahin, director of BioNTech, the scientist behind the successful Pfizer vaccine, believes that his product can help end the pandemic.

After Pfizer from the US and its partner BioNTech from Germany announced that the Covid-19 vaccine was 90% effective, experts questioned whether the product could protect infected people who did not show symptoms.

`If the question is whether we can reverse the pandemic with a vaccine, my answer is yes. Even if the vaccine helps prevent symptomatic cases, it has a significant effect.`

Previously, he was very cautious when talking about the ability of vaccines to trigger an immune response.

Although it is not possible to draw official conclusions about the vaccine from current testing, the 55-year-old scientist believes that the product is capable of preventing the transmission of the virus, instead of just protecting a single user.

According to Şahin, vaccines attack nCoV in many different ways.

Answering some complex questions about vaccine effectiveness can take weeks or even months.

It is expected that in the next three weeks, scientists will announce the level of protection of the product for each individual age group.

Professor Uğur Şahin, director of BioNTech company.

Professor Şahin expects users in all countries to be vaccinated with two doses of the vaccine, each dose three weeks apart.

Pfizer/BioNTech’s vaccine is prepared based on the genetic molecule RNA, which has the ability to stimulate human cells to produce viral proteins.

Pfizer’s strength in vaccine preparation and the quick actions of regulators helped speed up the development process to 10 months, instead of years.
