Teach children to save money so they don't become 'emotional slaves' 11

Children who have the ability to save will know how to value money and not spend it in exchange for vanity and emotional generosity.

Debating around the story ‘Teaching children how to spend money’, reader Thao Thu expressed her opinion on guiding children to use money for useful things instead of keeping it as their own:

`The purpose of making money is to spend, to take care of relatives and help the people you love. First, I will teach my children to take lucky money to treat the whole family. You should not let your children have money and just use it for themselves.

Disagreeing with the above way of raising children, reader Thanh Tue has an opposite view on the direction of using money for children:

`It’s a mistake to teach your children that their money is shared property, that earning money is to spend, to take care of relatives and help those you love. Money is labor, a measure of the worker’s value.

Most poor people often do not value money, use money to exchange for vain fame and arrogance, so they are often poor.

Sharing about how to teach children the balance between using money and saving, reader Nam Anh commented:

`When children are young, parents have many ways to guide their children to spend money. Maybe they will spend 30% to help parents pay tuition, 20% to save for the long term (contribute to the bank to earn interest, use for the future).

Adults should also take care of themselves first, and worry less about how much money they have.

If you don’t save money, when you need money, it’s uncomfortable to borrow anything, or if a relative gets sick and you don’t have savings, how can you help them?
