More than 1,000 people attended the opening of Book and Reading Culture Day 2

The opening ceremony of the second Book and Reading Culture Day at Quoc Tu Giam (Thua Thien Hue History Museum) attracted more than 1,000 readers on the afternoon of April 21.

In his opening speech, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung stated the importance of books, the root of books is knowledge, knowledge is the strength of each person, and also the strength of a nation and people.

Many countries have paid attention to promoting reading such as Japan, Korea, and Israel.

The Minister reiterated the tasks assigned by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Vietnam’s Revolutionary Publishing Tradition Day: `Publishing must affirm its position and role as one of the most important ideological activities.

During the event, the organizing committee introduced a video of the press joining hands to develop reading culture, praising eight press agencies with many readers for building a Books section.

The event attracted many book stalls from publishing units nationwide.

The opening ceremony took place briefly in one hour, with many side activities.

After a tour around the event, Nguyen Thi Tam, a second-year student majoring in Elementary Education, chose the book Rainbow Warrior.

Many young readers looked to buy books on the opening day of the event.

Some of the festival’s key programs such as organizing author exchanges, introducing works, discussions, exhibitions, art paintings, and film music are adapted from literary works.

A highlight of the activities is the Hue past and present exhibition – displaying books and ancient documents kept locally, and images of the city during the reform period.

Book and Reading Culture Day takes place from April 21 to May 1, carrying the message Books: Awareness – Innovation – Creativity and Books for me, for you.

Vietnam Book Day was first organized in 2014. Three years later, the Government changed its name to Book and Reading Culture Day, to spread reading habits in society.
